Loyola University Health System Hospital Tower

Maywood, Illinois

Creating a landmark facility.

Symbolizing the mission service and beliefs.

To create a unique and distinct identity for this important campus facility, the design team worked to understand the client’s unique qualities based on their mission, location, surroundings, services, and beliefs. Using symbols of these distinct characteristics, the team created a unique identifier.

The new Loyola University Hospital Tower consolidates the Center for Heart and Vascular Medicine and provides a new entry for the existing hospital. In a rapidly changing healthcare environment, the ability to adapt spaces and accommodate patient flow is essential. To maximize flexibility, all invasive procedures were integrated into a single unit, creating easily adaptable spaces. The suites are designed with the same central sterile access and sterile flow to allow for the most invasive cases. This model also allowed the client to consolidate support spaces traditionally spread throughout the facility, resulting in staff and space savings.

Patient areas are designed around Loyola’s patient- and family-centered model of care. The new inpatient units provide comfortable accommodations that feature large windows to maximize the benefits of natural light. Tone-on-tone finishes create a peaceful environment for patients to being their healing process.
